We visited 10 classrooms on May 10th at San Francisco de Macoris, Dominican Republic. Three Bird-Safe Cacao staff gave 15-20 minute talks regarding avian conservation laws (Lay 64-00) and the protected area system in Dominican cacao landscapes. The event included 2 interactive games, delivering a Caribbean Endemic Bird Festival info packet to teachers (with a bird coloring book, a factsheet, and a ‘Why Birds Matter’ poster) for teachers and a “Bird-Safe Cacao / Aves del Cacaotal” thematic poster regarding the importance of birds in cacao farms for the school’s murals.
