    Do you enjoy time outdoors? Are you detail-oriented and organized? 

    The Corps Network (TCN) is looking for a Resource Assistant to provide trail and wilderness program support at a national forest. This internship position will do inventory, surveys, and a variety of administrative duties. 

    What is the Resource Assistants Program (RAP)?

    Particular attention will be given to ensure full representation of women and participants from historically Black, Hispanic, and Native American schools or other schools with diverse student populations. Resource Assistants work under the supervision of Forest Service staff to complete mission-critical work that demonstrates leadership, critical thinking, and strategic communication. Through collaboration, training, and mentorship Resource assistants gain the tools to launch their natural and cultural resource careers.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Assists in planning and administration of projects for non-motorized and motorized trail maintenance, wilderness inventory and monitoring, and wilderness education. Assists with the administration of wilderness recreation resources in accordance with the Wilderness Act, National Policy, and the Forest Land Management Plan. Helps to maintain trail inventory and trail condition surveys and keeps work accomplishment reports up-to-date. Executes trail surveys and designs for trail maintenance, reconstruction, or construction. Provides wilderness education programs. Coordinates with other members of the Districts’ workforces as needed to achieve individual District program of work. 

    Qualifications and Skills:

    Ability to work outside in inclement weather. Communicate effectively in writing and verbally with coworkers. Knowledge of construction techniques, processes, and methodologies to maintain trails. Ability to perform duties in an office setting, as well as the field setting. 

    Compensation and Benefits:

    Health insurance; Housing allowance; $500/week stipend; Direct Hiring Authority - after completing and meeting program requirements, interns are eligible for Direct Hire Authority (DHA) for permanent, term, and temporary Forest Service positions.

    Start Date: September 21st, 2020

    Duration: 6 months
