Be Consistent & Creative
It takes time to get results from diversity outreach work. Be patient and do not give up! Think of new and creative ways of spreading the word about your programs. Consider modifying the time or day of the week when your programs take place. Get input from visitors, staff, and board members on what others methods can be used to engaged your target audience. It is important to be consistent with this type of initiative to avoid losing momentum and credibility.
North Cascades, Washington Case Study:
After the 3 year study at this site was completed, educators continued the Latino engagement project and formed the TeamNaturaleza initiative. TeamNaturaleza offers bilingual and bicultural outdoor experiences and connects Latino families to nature. The family based programs provide year-round opportunities to explore wilderness areas. TeamNaturaleza also hosts activities during the annual Leavenworth Spring Bird Festival.
