Bird City Programs have sprouted around the United States, encouraging communities to take action and support their local birds. Here are some of the original foundations of Bird City. (photo by Saskia Hostens)
Bird City Wisconsin provides highly visible public recognition to municipalities that understand that healthy communities are the sum of many parts, including birds.
We support our communities in their efforts to protect and manage green space, educate their citizens, build and erect nesting structures, landscape with native plants, reduce threats to birds like collisions and outdoor cats, and generally make urban areas both friendlier for birds and places where people want to live and work.
Bird City Maryland launched in 2019 to help build sustainable communities and connect people with nature. The Bird City program brings people together, builds community pride, and makes Maryland communities a nicer place to live for people and for birds.
Bird City Texas recognizes and encourages effective and impactful native bird conservation where people live, work, and recreate. Where birds thrive, people prosper. From urban centers to rural towns, each community can provide important habitat for birds, and certified communities will receive recognition and community benefits as a result of these efforts created by Audubon Texas and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
Bird City Texas encourages communities to get together and create a positive impact for birds. See our FAQ page for more information on how Bird City Texas can help your community. When we have passionate communities working towards the common goals of habitat preservation and restoration, engagement, and education, the birds, wildlife, and people win!
Our program in Minnesota is modeled after the successful Bird City Wisconsin and Bird Town Pennsylvania programs. It also incorporates some actions from Minnesota GreenStep Cities. We have now recognized our first Minnesota Bird City communities and are working with several new cities to refine procedures and materials.
Bird Town is a working partnership of Audubon and municipalities in Pennsylvania to promote conservation and community-based actions to create a healthy, more sustainable environment for birds and people. Audubon provides the tools for the municipality to engage their residents, schools and businesses in making more ecologically-friendly decisions, conserving energy and in the process, saving money.
Bird City USA is the Audubon’s program to encourage communities to protect their birds and wildlife and promote pride in their hometown.
