Our Colorado cities have aided in our mission for bird conservation and are recognized for their unique contributions. Take a look at the cities that have participated so far in Bird City Colorado.
Thanks to its demonstrated commitment to becoming more bird-friendly, the City of Lafayette has just been named the first “Bird City Colorado.” Lafayette has proven its concern for our feathered friends through its expanding education program, annual World Migratory Bird Day festival, and substantial efforts to create and protect important habitats. These include invasive species removal, plantings, and more at Greenlee Wildlife Preserve, a nationally acclaimed oasis for migratory birds and nesting waterfowl such as Swainson’s Hawk, Barn Swallow, Pied-billed, and Western Grebes.
The city of Lafayette is the perfect model for Colorado’s first bird city and will encourage neighboring cities to do the same conservation work for our native birds.
